Bio

Carmen is a British-Lebanese writer for stage and screen. In April 2022 her Almeida Young Company play THE MALADIES premiered at the Yard Theatre, directed by Yasmin Hafesji. Her next play THE CLIMBERS will premiere in June 2022 in the birthplace of the British rock-climbing movement at the Theatre by the Lake in Keswick, directed by Guy Jones. She is currently writing new works for the Almeida, the Kiln and The Lot. In 2017 Carmen won the Channel 4 Playwrights' Scheme and was attached to the Finborough Theatre, where her play DUBAILAND previously premiered and she ran the writers group. In 2018 she was commissioned by Kiln Theatre to write a play for their young company, LET KILBURN SHAKE, directed by Harry Mackrill. She was previously a member of the Orange Tree Writers Collective and the Royal Court's Playwriting Group. Her earlier play THE HOUSE OF MY FATHER was long-listed for the Bruntwood Prize and Carmen has been shortlisted for OffWestEnd.com's prestigious Adopt a Playwright Award. Carmen has an MA in Playwriting from Royal Holloway University.
