Bio

Carmen Nasr is a British-Lebanese writer based in London, originally from Beirut. Her work spans theatre and screen, with a focus on bold, politically resonant storytelling. In 2022, her play THE CLIMBERS premiered at Theatre by the Lake, directed by Guy Jones, and THE MALADIES developed with the Almeida Theatre Young Company, opened at The Yard Theatre directed by Yasmin Hafesji. 

Carmen was a winner of the prestigious Channel 4 Playwrights’ Scheme in 2017, during which she was attached to the Finborough Theatre, where her breakout play DUBAILAND had previously premiered. She has written for the Kiln Theatre’s Young Company (LET KILBURN SHAKE, 2018) and Makani (I AM LYSISTRATA, 2024) and she is currently under commission to the Almeida Theatre, Hampstead Theatre, Shakespeare's Globe and the National Theatre. She is also adapting Avni Doshi’s Booker Prize–shortlisted novel Burnt Sugar for the Lot Productions. 

Her work has been supported by leading new writing programmes, including the Orange Tree Writers Collective and the Royal Court Playwriting Group and she is currently developing her first TV screenplay supported by Sky Productions. In 2015, her play THE HOUSE OF MY FATHER was longlisted for the prestigious Bruntwood Playwriting Prize.

Alongside her writing, Carmen teaches playwriting at the University of Manchester and Royal Holloway, University of London.
