Bio
Cecilia Carey is a London based set and costume designer creating versatile and unique spaces for theatre and events, with particular experience in creating transformative spaces for young audiences and in communities and healthcare settings.
Collaboration and detail to create captivating worlds are at the heart of her design ethos. She delivers two and three dimentional solutions, with a strong emphasis on over-scale, colour and texture to really pull in the magic for young minds.
She designed the immensely intimate solo theatre show, Richard Gadd’s Olivier award winning hit, Baby Reindeer, ‘in the round’. However, 2D design solutions via murals and unique visual commissions in healthcare environments also enable huge transformations for the mind to escape from the mundane. Working with inpatients at Gt Ormond Street Hospital to develop playful, meaningful objects to be used in ‘Tidy Up’ was a highly memorable show, which subsequently toured multiple wards, schools and stages. Other commissions have been a total re-design of an oncology therapy room at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, ‘Vicky’s Place’, designing an award winning new musical in the West End, ‘Kathy & Stella Solve a Murder’ and numerous shows for children with Opera North, Birmingham Rep, The Young Vic and The Sherman Theatre.
Trained at the Motley Theatre Design Course, she blends theatrical design with practical, joyful and unforgettable experiences.
