Bio
Josh Elliott is a playwright and dramaturg of Irish and Indian heritage. In 2025 he became Artistic Director of Vital Xposure, a disabled-led theatre company, after six years as Literary Manager at Graeae.
His work has been staged at the Almeida and Royal Court, with The Funeral Directors’ Play in The Key Workers’ Cycle praised by The Guardian as “fantastically weird, funny, macabre”, by The Times as “neat, witty,” and by the Almeida as “richer and more moving than many full-length plays".
Josh is currently developing new ideas for the stage and screen, including Cannibal Tom, a four-act historical drama commissioned by the Almeida, and a stage adaptation of a popular children's book. Darkly funny and emotionally incisive, his writing interrogates grief, masculinity, and power while championing disabled and marginalised voices.
As a dramaturg, he has worked with the RSC, Royal Exchange Manchester, Talawa, and Graeae.
