Bio

Julie Tsang playwright and screenwriter. She is a recipient of the Scotland Short Play Award 2017, Audio Drama Award 2020 (Alphabetti Theatre) and The Rising Star Award (National Theatre of Scotland) 2021.

Recent credits include the Offie Nominated SAM WU IS NOT AFRAID OF GHOSTS (Polka Theatre) and a staged reading of her latest play SO... JESUS (Criterion Theatre). Other credits include THE FAMILY UNIT (Barons Court Theatre) which was longlisted for the Bruntwood Prize and Womens Prize for Playwrighting, and selected for The Women’s International Conference in Montreal. FIX (Pleasance Theatre), PLAYING WITH TALES, (Lyceum Theatre; RSC), ALISHA’S STORY (Open Clasp Theatre), GIRAFFE (Alphabetti Theatre), ALL NOISE (Theatre 503; Theatre Centre), LILYBOROUGH LANE (Cumbernauld Theatre), LIKE THIS (Tron Theatre) and PULSE (Lion & Unicorn theatre and Winner of London Playwrights Blog Competition).

Julie is currently under commission with the National Theatre, Birmingham Hippodrome and Open Clasp Theatre. 

Julie was selected for BBC New Voices festival and was one of the six writers chosen for the in-house scripted development scheme with CBBC. She has written TV episodes for children TV including BAFTA nominated MOLLY AND MACK. 

Julie is currently developing her original TV drama with Emanata Studios. She has been in writersrooms with CBBC, BBC Studios, Three Wise Entertainment and Pure Fiction.

Julie’s short films have been nominated for a Scottish BAFTA, won the Creative Skillset Film Academy Award (EIFF) and released as part of the UN’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities. She was shortlisted for Screen Scotland and BFI funded Sharp Shorts.
