Bio

Kaamil Shah is a dynamic writer and showrunner whose work spans TV, film, and theatre, with a sharp focus on the Indian and Pakistani diasporas. A graduate of both Cambridge and the London Film School, his first short film, THE COLOUR OF MILK, premiered at BFI Southbank in 2018. His breakout television moment came in 2023 with COUNT ABDULLA, a genre-bending horror-comedy about a British-Pakistani doctor turned vampire. Created and written by Kaamil, the six-part series was produced by Fudge Park and premiered on ITVX in June 2023. Though it ran for just one season, it drew praise for its unique voice and cultural nuance.

Named a Broadcast Hot Shot in 2022, Kaamil continues to develop an ambitious slate of projects across both drama and comedy. His musical comedy-drama SOUTHALL STORY is in development with Silverprint Pictures, and he’s actively working on original and talent-led projects with companies including Two Brothers Pictures, STV, Red Planet Pictures, and Sister Pictures.

Kaamil has been selected for two prestigious Series Mania writing programmes. In 2019, he took part in the UGC Writers Campus in Lille, France, developing his drama DUBAI ON THAMES. In 2025, he was one of just six writers from across Europe chosen for the Warner Bros. Discovery × Series Mania Institute Writers Programme, where he developed his sci-fi drama THEY LOOK JUST LIKE US. In 2021, Kaamil was also selected as one of ViacomCBS International Studios’ First Look Deal writers—a major initiative to support underrepresented British talent. His two-year deal with Paramount+ helped develop several original pitches.

His earlier credits include in the writers room for CBBC’s Class Dismissed, creating the BBC Writersroom/BBC Asian Network monologue MOHEEZ MEANS BUSINESS, and penning SHAHID'S FIRST SHAVE for the BBC iPlayer Sparks monologue series. His debut stage play, ALLAH'S OWN COUNTRY, was developed through Soho Theatre’s Writers’ Lab, shortlisted for the Tony Craze Award, and went on to win a RAFTA.
