Katie Elin-Salt

Katie is a writer, dramaturg and artistic director from Bridgend, South Wales. 

Her debut play SPRINKLES, produced by Dirty Protest, enjoyed a sell-out tour across Wales. It was remounted for a sell-out run at The Other Room (Cardiff) in 2024. The play was longlisted for the Victoria Wood Prize. 

Her play CELEBRATED VIRGINS opened to great critical acclaim (“A profoundly significant piece of queer history -The Stage ★★★★) at Theatr Clwyd in 2022 and was named by Susannah Clapp as one of the Observer’s Top 10 Plays of the Year. 

Most recently Katie took the role of dramaturg and associate director for Theatr Clwyd’s mainstage production of UNDER MILK WOOD for which she wrote new material as part of the inaugural production of the Craidd Partnership, whose aim is to create meaningful and sustainable change and improve mainstage representation of disabled people across Wales and beyond. The production received four and five-star national reviews (“An entertaining and inclusive production- The Guardian ★★★★; “A magical production that draws something luminous from the everyday- What’s On Stage ★★★★★) and toured across Wales.

Katie has also written two successful sell-out family shows for Sherman Theatre, Cardiff – RED RIDING HOOD and HANSEL & GRETEL. 

Katie is a current associate artist at Pentabus Theatre. She was writer in residence at Theatr Clwyd and a former member of Royal Court Introduction to Playwriting course and Soho Theatre Writers’ Lab. Katie is a current member of Stiwdio Clwyd’s flagship programme “Tearing the Roof Off” – aimed at supporting mid-career artists to create large scale work. 

For screen – Katie is a former member of BBC Voices and was shortlisted for BBC Wales writer in residence. Her pilot screenplay SQUASHED, written with writing partner Charlotte Gray, is currently in development with Mojo productions. Previous screen credits include GALWAD (Sky Arts). 

Katie is founder and artistic director of “Oshi’s World” – Wales’ first theatre company making work exclusively with and for people with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD). Their first tour GREEN FINGERS – which was co-created, directed and composed by Katie – toured in Summer 2026. Oshi’s World are currently working in collaboration with Welsh National Theatre on adapting main house shows for sensory audiences. They are also developing a sensory pantomime and a new production for 2027.
