Bio

Louis Emmitt-Stern is an award-winning writer and director from Gibraltar based in London. He won Soho Theatre's Tony Craze Award for his play SLIPPERY, currently in development for full production. His debut play I FUCKED YOU IN MY SPACESHIP received a sold-out premiere at VAULT Festival, winning the Origins Award for Outstanding New Work. It subsequently transferred to Soho Theatre, London. Louis was called "a rising-star playwright" by Time Out. The play is published by Nick Hern Books.

Louis' adaptation of MANSFIELD PARK, from the novel by Austen, premiered in a site-specific production at Jane Austen's House, Chawton. His latest original play, SNAKES AND LADDERS, commissioned by the Oxford School of Drama, premiered at Southwark Playhouse. Louis was previously on attachment to Oxford Playhouse as part of the Playhouse Playmaker's scheme. His other work has been performed at Watford Palace Theatre, The Pleasance Theatre Islington, LAMDA, Leeds Conservatoire, and supported by Farnham Maltings.

In 2023, Louis received the HM Government of Gibraltar Cultural Services Award for Special Achievement, recognising his contribution to Gibraltarian theatre and his work with young people in the arts. As a facilitator, he has run workshops for Battersea Arts Centre, Northcott Theatre Exeter, Omnibus Theatre Clapham, Soho Theatre, and Royal Holloway. He teaches on the MA/MFA Writing for Stage and Broadcast Media at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.
