Matthew Gabrielli

Matthew Gabrielli is an award-winning neurodivergent writer for stage and screen, he describes his work as telling tales and having adventures, he’s interested in speculative fiction, weird tales, and mythology.

His play FOOL’S GOLD, a social-magical-realist comedy won the Lancaster Playwriting Prize 2023. His debut play ZOMBIEGATE had a 3-week run at Theatre 503 in November 2022 proving to be a hit with critics and audiences alike with WhatsOnStage in a 4* review calling it “a compelling new play: smart, gripping, cautionary & bang-up-to-date” and was nominated for an Offie for Most Promising Playwright.

He is also experienced as a writer for young people and community groups, having co-created MURDER ON THE DANCEFLOOR (2025) with Wolverhampton Grand Arena Youth Theatre and PUSS IN BOOTS (2022) a Community Pantomime for older adults at risk of social isolation for Women & Theatre. 

He is currently part of Paines Plough Tour the Writer programme attached to the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry. As well as developing original ideas for TV. 

Previously Matthew was part of Graeae’s Beyond Artist Development Programme and alumni of Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse’s Young Writers’ Programme and has an MRes in Playwriting Studies from the University of Birmingham.
