Owen Tooth

In 2025, Owen made history as the first disabled director of EastEnders in its 40 year run. His debut block culminated in the VE Day standalone special which trended on X and garnered headlines calling it ‘Perfect’, ‘Beautiful’, noting it ‘Left fans gasping for breath’ and ‘In floods of tears’. 

In a year of professional highs, Owen is now a BAFTA Breakthrough, a Broadcast Hot Shot and BFI Filmmaker of the Month. 

Owen directs with joyous energy and a flair for rich, elegant storytelling.  Owen loves a dose of comedy with his drama and he has a strong understanding of genre, stunts & VFX. His work has won festivals and earned Best Film, Audience Choice, Best Director, Best Comedy, and Best Documentary awards, screening in competition at Oscar, BAFTA and BIFA qualifiers. 

One of just six directors chosen from thousands for the NETFLIX Documentary Talent Fund ‘25, Owen is in the ScreenSkills HETV Regional New Directors Champion Programme, have been mentored through Directors UK Inspire, and attended the Midlands BFI Director's Lab. He is in BAFTA Connect and has been selected for BBC Elevate. 

His debut feature sold worldwide on Blu-Ray, DVD & VOD, and his films have been distributed in innovative ways, from DVD extras (alongside Paranormal Activity) to magazine covers, virtual worlds, and Oculus Rift headsets. 

As a wheelchair user and an ally, Owen leads collaborative change in the industry while directing with undeniable talent. He is determined to make his mark as a director who not only made it, but who held the door open for others to follow.
