Bio
Director Michael Powell and Screenwriter Emeric Pressburger were seminal film makers of the 1940s and 1950s, whose classic films provide a major contribution to the British cinema, under their banner: written, produced and directed by Michael Powell & Emeric Pressburger. Still regarded as iconic and highly influential to modern cinema their films include THE RED SHOES, A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH, I KNOW WHERE I'M GOING, BLACK NARCISSUS, A CANTERBURY TALE and THE LIFE AND DEATH OF COLONEL BLIMP.
The recent restorations of THE RED SHOES, THE LIFE AND DEATH OF COLONEL BLIMP and A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH have received extraordinary acclaim, in the UK and the USA. A retrospective of their work is being organised by the BFI in the Autumn of this year.
