Bio

Ryan Leder is a playwright from Northamptonshire.

Ryan studied at Edge Hill University before training at RADA. He has written for theatre, radio, podcasts, virtual reality and hard print. His work has been described as theatrically playful, humorous, and ambitious – telling stories of a strange or unusual nature with heart and humour.

Ryan’s first play to be produced, NUMBERED DAYS, won the inaugural Dame Janet Suzman Playwriting Prize in 2017. Before that, Ryan came runner-up for Nottingham Playhouse’s Fifth Word Award for Most Promising Playwright for his play STILL HERE, and co-wrote BUS for Action Transport Theatre alongside Kevin Dyer.

In 2018, Ryan was commissioned to write 60 MILES BY ROAD OR RAIL, his first mid-scale play, telling the story of Northampton’s New Town designation in 1968. The show premiered at the Royal & Derngate, Northampton in September 2021 as the centrepiece of a wider arts, heritage and community project.

Ryan has also written work for audio and digital spaces, including THIS PAIN IS MINE, a VR-360 play commissioned by The Core at Corby Cube, PATRICK for Pentabus, and A SHORT STORY ABOUT TIME TRAVEL, which he was commissioned to write by BBC Arts and Arts Council England.

Ryan is currently under commission for Royal & Derngate, Northampton
