Bio

Teunkie is a writer-director working in the UK and Europe. Most recently he was Head of Artistic Development at the Young Vic, working on over 2 dozen productions including Nachtland, The Collaboration, Mandela, Best Of Enemies and the Elvis Costello Musical A Face In The Crowd.

Directing credits include the trilogy Clybourne Park, Beneatha’s Place and A Raisin In The Sun at Internationaal Theater Amsterdam for Well Made Productions, awarded the 2017 Amsterdam Award for the Arts. He directed the Netherlands premieres of The Mountaintop, Waterdragers, Lungs, and Motortown. In the UK, he directed HATE after La Haine (Barbican), Yasser (Assembly Rooms Edinburgh; Arcola; Chopin Theater Chicago; Royal Theatre The Hague), Winter (Orange Tree), and Women Laughing (Old Red Lion, OFFIE Nomination Best Director). He was Resident Director on ANNE: The Diaries Of Anne Frank On Stage at Theater Amsterdam, and worked at HOME, as Staff Director at the National Theatre and as Trainee Director at the Orange Tree Theatre.

His play Tikkun Olam was directed by Michael Boyd at Riverside Studios for the Originals Playwriting Awards. His translations have been produced by the National Theatre of the Netherlands and at a range of venues in the UK and Off-Broadway.
