Andrew McCaldon


Andrew is a writer for stage and TV and regularly works with orchestras and family audiences.

Recent work includes: ANOTHER STAR TO STEER BY, a play for children commissioned by the Brighton Festival; THE SECRET LIFE OF TRUMPET, a musical play for The Southbank Centre; and MERRY CHRISTMAS BABY, with Gregory Porter, broadcast on Christmas Day on BBC2.

Andrew was one of the creators of TEN PIECES, the BBC’s acclaimed classical music initiative for children, writing two films (Children’s BAFTA winner, 2016) and four annual Ten Pieces Proms, combining music and drama, for the BBC PROMS at the Royal Albert Hall.

His other work for children includes: family concerts for the BBC Philharmonic and BBC Concert Orchestra; two series of POETRY BETWEEN THE LINES (BBC, Children’s BAFTA winners, 2014 & 2015); WHERE IN THE WORLD? (CBeebies); GUIN AND THE DRAGON (BBC/EBU); GNOMUS (Puppets with Guts); and a new narration of Britten’s THE YOUNG PERSON’S GUIDE TO THE ORCHESTRA, performed by Imelda Staunton at the Royal Festival Hall (Philharmonia Orchestra/ Classic FM).
