Chris Monks

Chris is a theatre director and writer. In the past he was principally a director of musical theatre, including notably his own innovative music theatre adaptations of three Gilbert and Sullivan operas, as well as CARMEN, THE MAGIC FLUTE and THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO. Recent works as adaptor/director include THE SHEPHERD'S LIFE for Theatre by the Lake and based on James Rebanks autobiographical work of the same name, an adaptation of Sullivan’s COX AND BOX with an original sequel set in the present day, and THE LAST TRAIN TO SCARBOROUGH adapted from Andrew Martin’s novel of the same name.  Chris was artistic director at Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough from 2009-2015 where he directed 20 productions and he also works as a visiting lecturer, advisor and director at several drama schools.
