Writer

Selma is a writer, director and dramaturg based in Wales. From  2018 to 2020 she was dramaturg on the new production of Sting’s musical THE LAST SHIP which opened at Northern Stage and then toured Canada and USA to great acclaim. As a librettist she developed a contemporary chamber opera for Aldeburgh 2018 with composer Emily Howard and has written a new version of BERENICE for the Royal Opera House, directed by Adele Thomas (Olivier nominated). She is currently writing a screenplay with Lorne Campbell and Dave Stewart (Eurthymics) about a young boy growing up in Sunderland.

As a writer, she has been commissioned by companies including 7:84, The Traverse, Bath Theatre Royal, Northern Stage, Dundee Rep and Oran Mor. She specialises in radical adaptations of classic texts, having adapted both HEDDA GABLER and DR FRANKENSTEIN, the latter of which enjoyed a successful UK tour and is now being adapted into a film.
