Bio

Asif Khan is an award-winning writer and actor from Bradford, celebrated for work that blends wit, urgency, and heart.

In 2025, his play SISTERS 360, inspired by real-life skateboarding siblings, premiered at Polka Theatre before transferring to Leeds Playhouse and will embark on a schools tour in Spring 2026 as well as playing as part of Bradford 2025 and receiving a nomination for Best Stage Production at the Asian Media Awards. His debut play COMBUSTION toured nationally and established him as a major new voice, earning nominations for OffWestEnd’s Best New Play and The Stage Debut Award for Best Writer, and winning Best Production at both the Eastern Eye Arts, Culture and Theatre Awards and the Asian Media Awards.

In April 2026, Asif’s stage adaptation of Zanib Mian’s beloved children’s novel PLANET OMAR will open at Leeds Playhouse, before touring to London’s Unicorn Theatre and Birmingham Rep, directed by Sameena Hussain.

Asif won the Channel 4 Playwrights’ Scheme Award in 2018 with Rifco and Watford Palace, where he developed new work. His play IMAAM IMRAAN (directed by Iqbal Khan for the National Youth Theatre) premiered at the Bradford Literature Festival in 2019, and his audio drama THIS WEIRD NORMAL (RADA Productions) is available on all major podcast platforms. He was also one of 19 writers commissioned for Theatre503’s ImagiNation Festival 2020.

A Tamasha alumnus, Asif has created numerous plays for teenage audiences and continues to develop new YA and children’s theatre projects alongside original feature film and television work.

Named on the BBC New Talent Hotlist in 2017 and a former member of the BBC Comedy Room, Asif is also the founder of AIK Productions, a company dedicated to championing stories from underrepresented voices. With Turtle Key Arts, he co-produced and performed in LOVE, BOMBS and APPLES, an award-winning play that toured internationally to venues including the Arcola Theatre, Edinburgh Festival, San Francisco’s Potrero Stage, and The Kennedy Center in Washington DC, winning “Outstanding Production” at the Theatre Bay Area Awards (2018).

As an actor, Asif’s screen and stage work spans drama and comedy. His recent credits include Mr Bates vs the Post Office (ITV/Little Gem) on screen, and A Man for All Seasons (West End), Tartuffe (RSC), A Kind of People (Royal Court), Twelfth Night (National Theatre), and When the Crows Visit (Kiln) on stage. He is represented as an actor by Roxane Vacca Management.
